Generally speaking, when diesel generators suffer from severe wear and seal damage, a large amount of oil enters the combustion chamber for combustion, resulting in excessive oil consumption. This is commonly known as oil burning. It should be said that burning engine oil is a serious problem. There are three situations during the burning process of lubricating oil: burning oil during cold start, accelerating oil burning, and burning oil under any circumstances. Among the above three situations, the first two are not serious, but the third situation needs attention.
1. Oil will burn during cold start. Generally speaking, burning oil during cold start refers to the situation where oil is burned during the first start in the morning.
Judgment: The diesel generator starts for the first time every morning, and thick blue smoke will be emitted from behind the exhaust pipe. After a period of time, the blue smoke screen disappears, and similar situations generally do not occur on the same day (if this situation persists for a long time, the blue smoke may stop and turn off in place). The same problem occurred the next morning, but in other cases, there was no smoke. Once this situation occurs, it is burning oil during cold start.
2. Burn oil during acceleration. Accelerator combustion refers to the emission of blue smoke from the exhaust pipe of a diesel generator during acceleration, but when running smoothly, the blue smoke disappears.
Method of judgment: When the generator is running, a large amount of blue smoke is emitted from the exhaust pipe.
Reason: Due to the inadequate sealing between the piston ring and cylinder wall on the diesel generator piston, during rapid acceleration, oil directly enters the cylinder from the crankcase, causing oil burning.
3. Burn engine oil under any circumstances. This situation indicates that the diesel generator is severely worn and requires major repairs. If not repaired in a timely manner, it can cause serious safety hazards.
4. Air compressor malfunction: The onboard air compressor experiences severe piston ring wear or cylinder pulling, causing pressure air to enter the crankcase, resulting in high exhaust pressure and oil burning.
Method of judgment: After starting the diesel generator and idling, loosen the oil return pipe of the air compressor. If a large amount of gas is felt to rush out, it can be judged that the gas in the air compressor has seriously escaped.
