Abstract: Fuel is the only fuel for diesel power plants. Reasonably selecting fuels, determining the fuel supply system based on the nature, unit model, and capacity of diesel power plants, and appropriately selecting fuel supply equipment and management are all important components of building diesel power plants. In protective engineering, it is also necessary to choose a reliable fuel supply system and store a certain amount of fuel based on the importance of the project, transportation conditions, terrain conditions at the project site, and tactical technical requirements, to ensure the normal operation of diesel power plants in emergency situations.

In addition, diesel generators need to consume a certain amount of lubricating oil during operation. Reasonable selection of lubricating oil and setting of lubricating oil system directly affect the reliability, economy, and durability of diesel power plant operation.

1. The main requirements for fuel in diesel generators

(1) Fuel should contain an appropriate cetane number and distillation range. The cetane number of diesel is generally selected according to the following principles:

Diesel generators with high-speed direct injection combustion chambers typically have a distillation range of 200-365 ℃.

(2) Fuel should have an appropriate viscosity. The viscosity of general light diesel fuel is 2.5-8 centistrokes at 20 ℃, which can meet the requirements.

(3) Fuel should have a lower freezing point. Usually selected according to the region and season to ensure smooth fuel supply system.

(4) Fuel should be free of mechanical impurities and moisture.

(5) Fuel should not contain substances that corrode diesel generator machinery.

(6) The combustion products of fuel should not form carbon deposits in the fuel injector and combustion chamber.

2. The main requirements of diesel for lubricating oil (engine oil)

(1) It should have appropriate viscosity. Select according to the region and season to ensure that the engine oil can form a thin oil film well.

(2) The viscosity temperature performance of engine oil is better (with a lower viscosity ratio).

(3) Good thermal oxidation stability.

(4) Engine oil should have good cleaning effect and floating performance.

(5) The residual carbon content and ash content should be low.

(6) It should not contain soluble acids and bases.

(7) Only a very small amount of moisture and mechanical impurities are allowed.
