The main noise sources of diesel generator sets are generated by diesel engines, including exhaust noise, mechanical noise and combustion noise, cooling fan and exhaust noise, intake noise, generator noise, and noise generated by the transmission of foundation vibration. When diesel generator sets are running, they usually produce noise of 95-128 dB (a). In order to protect and improve environmental quality, it is necessary to control noise. Here are some noise reduction methods for diesel generator sets:
1. Reduce exhaust noise
Exhaust noise is the main source of noise for the unit, characterized by high noise level, fast exhaust speed, and difficulty in control. Using a specially designed impedance type composite muffler can generally reduce exhaust noise by 40-60 dB (a).
2. Reduce the noise of axial flow fans
When reducing the noise of the cooling fan of the generator set, two issues must be considered: the pressure loss allowed by the exhaust channel, and the required amount of noise reduction. For the above two points, a resistive plate muffler can be selected.
3. Sound insulation, absorption treatment, and unit vibration isolation in the computer room
(1) Sound insulation in the computer room: After the exhaust noise and cooling fan noise of the unit are reduced, the remaining main sources of noise are diesel engine mechanical noise and combustion noise. The method used is to remove all windows except for the necessary internal wall observation windows connected to the observation room. All holes and openings should be tightly sealed, and the sound insulation of the brick wall should be at least 40 dB (a). Fire and sound insulation doors and windows are used in the computer room.
(2) Air intake and exhaust: After the sound insulation treatment in the computer room, the ventilation and heat dissipation problem inside the computer room should be solved. The air inlet should be set in the same straight line as the generator set and exhaust outlet. The air inlet should be equipped with a resistive plate type muffler. As the pressure loss at the air inlet is also within the allowable range, it can naturally balance the incoming and outgoing air volume in the computer room, resulting in significant ventilation and heat dissipation effects.
(3) Sound absorption treatment: The five walls inside the computer room, except for the ground, can be subjected to sound absorption treatment. According to the spectral characteristics of the generator set, a perforated plate resonance sound absorption structure is adopted.
(4) Low noise axial flow fan: The exchange of indoor air and good sound insulation in the machine room can prevent convection of the air in the machine room when the closed water-cooled generator unit is shut down, and the high temperature in the room cannot be reduced in time. Low noise axial flow fan can be used, combined with a resistive plate muffler, to solve the problem.
(5) Unit vibration isolation: Before the installation of the generator unit, it is necessary to strictly follow the relevant information provided by the manufacturer for vibration isolation treatment to avoid long-distance transmission of structural sound, and continuously emit air sound during transmission, which cannot meet the standard of noise level at the factory boundary. For existing generator units that require treatment due to exceeding the standard, the vibration situation of the ground near the unit must be measured. If the vibration sensation is obvious, the generator unit must be isolated first.
