Turbocharging of diesel generator sets can increase unit power and improve unit performance. The biggest advantage of turbocharging is that it can significantly increase the power and torque of the engine without increasing the engine displacement. After installing a turbocharger on an engine, its maximum output power can increase by about 40% or even more compared to not installing a turbocharger. Compared to naturally aspirated engines, turbocharged engines have stricter requirements for working environment and maintenance. Saiwei Energy will explain in detail several things to pay attention to when replacing the turbocharger of a diesel generator set:

1、 Clean the engine and replace the filter element. Drain the dirty oil, add 70% diesel and 30% engine oil to the engine, start the engine and run it for 3-5 minutes to clean the engine and oil ducts, and then drain it. Add an appropriate amount of engine oil and run for 5-10 minutes before draining. Replace the oil filter element and air filter element, and add clean lubricating oil to the full scale of the oil dipstick after filtering to ensure that the engine lubricating oil and oil passages are clean and tidy.

2、 Check the turbocharger. Check if the new turbocharger model matches. Rotate the turbocharger rotor by hand and it should run smoothly. If the impeller lags or there is a feeling of rubbing against the housing, the cause should be identified before installation.

3、 Check if there are any debris in the intake pipeline of the compressor and the exhaust pipeline of the engine in front of the turbine to prevent debris from damaging the impeller.

4、 Check the inlet and return pipes of the turbocharger. The inlet and return oil pipes of the turbocharger should be clean and not twisted or blocked. If a sealing gasket is used at the inlet and outlet of the turbocharger, check if there is any corrosion or deformation on the gasket. The gasket cannot block the inlet and outlet.

5、 Pre lubrication booster. The turbocharger is installed on the engine and is not connected to the oil pipe for the time being. Clean engine oil is first added to the turbocharger from the oil inlet, and the rotor is manually rotated to fill the turbocharger bearings with lubricating oil before connecting the oil inlet pipe.

6、 Trial operation. Starting the diesel engine, the oil pressure at the inlet of the turbocharger must be displayed within 3-4 seconds to prevent damage to the turbocharger bearing system due to a lack of lubricating oil. Run for 2 minutes, check if the rotor rotates smoothly without any noise, then stop and observe if the rotor can run smoothly with inertia. Under normal circumstances, it takes about half a minute before stopping.

7、 When the engine is running under load, the oil pressure must be between 196-392kPa for safety. When idling, the oil pressure should not be lower than 70kPa.
