The function of the oil cooler is to cool the lubricating oil and maintain the oil temperature within the normal working range. On high-power reinforced engines, due to the high heat load, an oil cooler must be installed. When the engine is running, the viscosity of the oil becomes thinner with increasing temperature, which reduces the lubrication capacity. Therefore, some engines are equipped with an oil cooler, which is used to lower the oil temperature and maintain a certain viscosity of the lubricating oil. The oil cooler is arranged in the circulating oil circuit of the lubrication system.

During the operation of a diesel engine, if it is found that coolant enters the oil pan and there is engine oil inside the radiator, the repair method for the damaged cooler core is as follows:

① After draining the waste oil inside the cooler, remove the oil cooler. Lay the removed cooler flat, and then fill the interior of the cooler with water through the oil outlet of the oil cooler.

During the experiment, block the oil inlet and use a high-pressure cylinder to release air into the cooler. If water is found at the oil inlet and outlet of the oil cooler, it indicates that the internal core or end cover sealing ring of the cooler is damaged.

② Remove the front and rear covers of the oil cooler and take out the core. If the outer layer of the core is found to be damaged, copper welding can be used to repair it. If the inner layer of the core is found to be damaged, it is generally necessary to replace it with a new core or block both ends of the same core.

When cracks or fractures appear on the end cover, cast iron welding rods can be used for welding before use. If the sealing gasket is damaged or aged, it should be replaced.
